I can't get away from writing. It's probably the closest thing I have to a calling. I started one day, abruptly, when I was about twelve. I was playing with this story, creating the characters in my head, thinking about them, what they would do if this or that happened. Then it started getting away from me. I thought, "I should write this down." And I did. It ended up being a novel-length menagerie about psychics and murders and vampires and scientists and.... You get the point. I could've used a crash course in focus and structure, but hey, I was twelve.
I've since grown up, graduated with a BA in English, had a small business or two, and become pretty obsessed with dogs. Writing continued to surge up at various times. The urge has never been completely dormant, and I've always known I would get back to it.
My husband and I have a dog training business now, and we've been blessed with success. Enough that the time is right. Er, write.
And that first story? It's been rewritten about ten times and now I'm ready for the world to meet those characters.
I love to read anything with paranormal or fantastic elements. I adore J.R. Ward and Anne Bishop. Patricia Briggs, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lillith St. Crow, Jacqueline Carey and Laurell K. Hamilton also have a permanent spot on my bookshelf. I do read 'normal' fiction occasionally, primarily to make my mother happy.
I'm from the metro Detroit area, and no, I've never actually witnessed any crime, been carjacked or anything else. But I have seen some pretty incredible things in D-town. Click here to learn more about that.
